The 27th August 2011 takes us back to the heart of Kent for this traditional family wedding. Bilsington Priory Estate sits close to the edge of Romney marsh high up on the medieval shoreline. The venue itself St. Augustine’s is the most idyllic of Kentish wedding locations. Founded in 1253, dissolved in 1535 and restored in 1906, this distinguished medieval Priory is steeped in history. Originally home to the Black Cannons of St. Augustine’s Order, it was a hostel for many pilgrims to Canterbury, later a centre for smugglers, most notably the Aldington Gang, and to this day, still retains an ancient offer of hospitality to the Archdeacon of Canterbury who has the privilege of staying at the Priory ‘two nights and a day, but nothing more.’  Set in seven magnificent acres of mature gardens, with majestic outlooks in every direction.

Cleo and Neil were married upstairs in the Grand Hall. We arrived early the same day to set up in an adjacent marquee that had been especially modified to accommodate the band and dance floor. We arrived back at the venue in time to change and ready to play the first dance The First Time Ever …. I Saw Your Face at 20.00. Cleo and Neil soon had every one up dancing.. At 21.00 we stop for the Buffet which was an amazing paella cooked in the room by the resident chef.. Superb!!!

The venue set curfew was 23 .30 so we had to quickly resume the dancing to live music. There was a natural high point in the third set when Bob the father of the bride joined the band to sing Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond … What a great singer he was too you can listen to his music here . The evening finished in traditional fashion with  the last dance Alicia Keys Empire State of Mind.

It’s alway a bit tricky for a live band when guests ask if you know this song or that song, Not only do we need to know it but it also has to be suitable… So when one of the guests shouts Play that one!! …… Play that one!! when we have already started it, it suits everyone !!!! ??? The song was Make you feel my love !!
